Troubleshooting Tips On Why Your Washing Machine Will Not Drain

Your washing machine is supposed to get your clothing clean; it should not leave your clothes smelly or soaking wet with water that is soiled. If you have an issue with your washing machine and your clothing is not wrung out, or it is not getting clean, it's an issue that you need to resolve before it leads to an even bigger problem. There are some things you may be able to do to troubleshoot the issue with your appliance. Read on for some tips.

Check For Clogs

If your appliance is clogged, it will not be able to drain properly. You need to remove any clogs that you may have in the drain line that could be causing the water to not be able to drain out of it. To do this, you can remove the drainage hose and inspect it for lint buildup. Clean the hose as best as you can or replace it altogether, but if it's not in the drainage hose, it could be in your drain pipes inside of your home instead. Clear out clogs using a snake or a store-bought drain cleaning liquid, then test your appliance again.

Look For Lint Buildup

You could have too much lint built up inside of the machine itself, which may leave you with the issue of your machine not draining properly. The lint trap on your washing machine probably doesn't get the same care or concern that the one on your dryer does. If you aren't checking out this lint trap, you may have an issue on your hands of a major lint buildup, or you could have small items stuck inside the trap. You need to locate the lint trap on your machine, then empty the contents as best as you can. Rinse the filter as well, which could be clogged with lint or with fabric softener. Rinse the trap and the filter, then replace it and test your machine again.

If your washing machine is not draining properly, it usually has something to do with the drain itself. If you have cleaned the drain and have checked your machine for a lint buildup, and it still will not drain, the issue may be with the tub itself not spinning your clothing properly or tumbling your clothing to get enough of the water wrung out of your clothing. If this is the case, you should hire a professional appliance repair company to take a look at your machine and make any necessary repairs.
