Should You Repair Or Replace A Broken Microwave?

You use it to heat up your leftovers, zap your Hot Pocket for lunch, or melt some butter for a recipe. The microwave is probably one of the most-used small appliances in the entire kitchen, and it has been for a lot of years. Therefore, when your microwave has problems, it can feel a little like your kitchen has lost one of its most valuable components. The biggest question most microwave owners have when their microwave does have issues is this: should you get your microwave oven repaired or replaced? There are actually a few questions to ask yourself to decide whether it is worth calling up an appliance service for your microwave or investing in a replacement.

How much did you pay for your microwave?

Microwave ovens are available at a multitude of price points. You can usually go out and pick up a basic model at a retail store for not a lot of money. However, you can also go all out and buy a microwave from an appliance store or upscale home-furnishing store that has a lot of extra features but comes at a much steeper price. In general terms, some of the cheapest models can be better to simply replace if they start having problems. On the other hand, a microwave that you invested more money in is something that is more logical to have repaired instead.

How old is your microwave?

It is usually more logical to have a newer microwave oven repaired than it is to toss it and go buy a new one because something about it is dysfunctional. You should also keep in mind that a lot of newer microwaves do come with a warranty to cover parts and repair if something goes wrong. Therefore, if you do have to pay for repairs with an appliance service, your costs may actually be reimbursed.

Does your microwave have special features?

Microwaves are far more complex than they once were. For example, some microwaves have the capability of offering convection baking or a smart instrument panel that tells you how to prepare certain foods. If your microwave is pretty fancy, with all kinds of features, it may be a better idea to have the unit repaired instead of buying a new unit. The fact is, features on some models are an ever-evolving thing. Therefore, it can sometimes be hard to find a microwave with those same features you love.

If your microwave isn't working the way it should, contact a microwave repair technician in your area for more information.
